Best for:
Spiritual growth, higher purpose living, big shifts and deep healing. A good sense of humour is appreciated and perfect for those who get excited about healthy-ish nightly desserts.

Not for:
Anyone put off by spiritual speak. Downward facing dog loving yoginis who want a beauty spa experience.

In a nutshell:

Soul Adventures are powerful retreats for retraining the mind and recalibrating the nervous system through ancient healing arts. Trish Whelan uses kundalini yoga and the shamanic healing arts to unearth long-standing traumas, issues and life problems at her beautiful home, Xuclar Beach House, set high in the Ibizan hills near the town of Portinax and surrounded by forest with views of the sea. The outdoor yoga deck is nestled amongst pine trees, and there is an indoor yoga shala filled with props. Choose from a range of group retreats between April and October, book onto a New Year retreat, or ask Trish to create something totally bespoke for you.

What’s Queenly?

The magnetism of the island combined with Trish’s kundalini and shamanic arts set the foundations for major, life changing shifts. Trish’s 25 years of working in the music industry also plays an integral part in bringing harmony to the entire experience.

What’s Lowly?

There is little time to catch what else is happening around you. If you suffer from FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and want to check out the hottest beach restaurant or visit the hippy market book extra nights.

Retreat Activities

Choose from a range of retreats that feature daily Kundalini yoga with meditation and gong relaxation, shamanic journeys, sharing workshops, great food and amazing sunsets.

Retreat creator and lead teacher Trish Whelan left the music industry to train in kundalini yoga in 2011. Since then, she has combined her passion for music, kundalini yoga and the healing arts to guide guests on a path to happiness. Trish, whose spiritual name is Tara Kaur, makes all those entering her space feel as if they are coming home to family, which makes the emotional work all the more worthwhile.

Various holistic healing retreats are on offer throughout the year in intimate groups to facilitate deep healing. Vibrate at your highest frequency is a 7 night signature retreat, Soul Medicine retreat a 5 night retreat, while Summer Solstice a long weekend. All feature two classes of kundalini per day with gong relaxation, meditation and shamanic workshops, plus three meals with a pre yoga morning juice. You’ll have time to reconnect with your self, nourish with organic, locally sourced produce and explore the healing vibration of food as medicine. Trish can arrange private, bespoke retreats with a menu to suit you for groups of eight to ten friends or family members.

Soul & Body Adventures is a 5 day kundalini yoga and fitness retreat with Trish Whelan and her personal trainer Sarah Jenkins, who is also an island resident. There are two fitness classes and one kundalini with gong relaxation per day, meditation and shamanic workshops, and three meals with a pre yoga morning juice.

Trish leads daily sharing workshops to allow guests a safe space to shed tears and secrets they have potentially locked away for years. Throughout the week, a combination of repeated movement, breath work and chanting encourages the body to physically, emotionally and mentally release tension, blockages and unwanted patterns.

Trish has been teaching this art since 2013 and leads all the ninety minute classes unless stated otherwise. Kundalini is known as the yoga of awareness, the ancient mother of all yoga, and it works on the nervous and glandular systems to help bring about transformation. Classes include postures, meditation, and chanting to help you open your heart, grow your confidence and connect with the ‘divine’ – or the true expression of your higher self. Every class is closed with a short sound relaxation using a gong, which helps to relax and heal body and mind through vibration. Yoga mats, sheepskin rugs, peruvian blankets and eye pillows are all provided. You can read all about Kundalini yoga here.

Trish uses simple techniques of language, prayer and music to guide guests on basic shamanic journeys – a form of visual meditation that can unlock past memories or fears. Such shamanic healing is an ancient practice that has been used in tribal communities for centuries, when the shaman of a village was believed to be its healer, with the ability to use deep meditation to access answers to all ills.

Restorative treatments are offered as extras and given by Trish’s long standing, trusted, resident-only therapists. They include powerful breathwork and chi nei tsang abdominal massage with Annabel James, and clinical reflexology with Gini Scott. Tarot is offered by Elaine Mary Collins, who has been interpreting the Tarot deck, known as The Book of Wisdom, for over 40 years. She has a wonderful energy and is a wise soul.

Wifi is available in the master bedroom and the living space but digital detoxing is encouraged. Guests are invited to spend free time reading, walking, resting and absorbing the experience, which can be very emotional for some.

This very simple, shallow water paddling session is arranged by Trish depending on group size and retreat. There’s no need for special attire as there’s little chance of getting wet, which makes it even suitable for those that are not so keen on swimming. It’s a great chance to leave the location as a group and still continue the experience by chanting together on the boards.

Personal spaces

Each room is named after a local beach and has a view of the sea or mountains. All five rooms are bright, white, relaxed and spacious, with tiled floors and simple decor. Xuclar suite is the master ensuite room with a terrace overlooking the sea. Opt for S’illot if you’re after a slightly more affordable price. A darling double room on the lower ground floor with views onto the garden and sea beyond the orange trees and a shared tiled bathroom. Rooms are gifted with a beautiful body spray called Aura, a blend of crystal infused natural scents hHandmade by Trish’s friend in London.

Personal spaces

Other spaces to be: There are two daybeds nestled under the trees in the garden for alone time or sunbathing.

Insider Tips

Always stay a few days extra to integrate back into regular life. Portinax has an adorable beach if guests prefer to retain a semi- retreat vibe. If fish is back on the menu grab a table at the tiny beach shack Cala Xuclar opposite the retreat, famous for its fresh produce.

When to Go

Ibiza is known for its all year round reliable climate, but Spring and Autumn are incredibly abundant, alive and much quieter than the months of July and August. Christmas is also one of Ibiza’s best-kept secrets. With blue sunny skies, it makes for a magical festive trip.

Shared places

Outside spaces:
Your base is Trish’s beautiful home, Xuclar Beach House, set high in the Ibizan hills and surrounded by forest with views of the sea. The grounds are expertly maintained with lush Mediterranean plant life, olive and orange trees, vines and cacti. It’s very easy not to go anywhere else if you so choose. Meals and conversations at all times of the day take place on the outdoor terrace, which has a large tiled table with a crystal at its centre and is decorated with hand painted, earthy Spanish bowls and plates. It’s a hard place to leave, with guests often talking into the night as they look out at sea.

Shared places

Indoor spaces:
The indoor living space is open to all. Grab a book on healing, life and wisdom from the library and get comfy on the soft pink stripy sofas. The kitchen area also extends into the dining space, which can be used if the weather is not being kind. There is a large table here, and crystals surround the space. The kitchen always smells of something delicious.

Shared places

Yoga and treatment space:
There’s one indoor shala that holds around 8 people. It is all white but decorated as an Indian shrine, with colourful paintings, bright hanging garlands and displays of large crystals from across the globe. All props are provided, including mats, blankets, rugs and eye pillows. This space is also used for treatments.

Sustenance

Meals are eaten in the indoor dining space or on the gorgeous outdoor terrace with views out the sea, and nourishing meals play a big part at Soul Adventures. Trish has worked hard to find chefs that love being around food, and on most retreats Katie James (sister of therapist Annabel) provides the vegetarian, gluten and refined sugar fare for the week.

There are three plated, substantial and colourful meals per day with a fresh juice before morning class – you won’t need any snacks. Expect creamy porridge with all the toppings, red and purple acai bowls, granola and coconut chia, teas and coffee. Lunches range from lentil and kale, slaw Buddha bowls to homemade falafel salad with beets, carrots, cucumber, greens, sprouts and a tahini dressing. Dinner is a little lighter with hearty soups such as celeriac or squash and homemade seedy breads. No alcohol is served but fresh herbal teas and filtered water are available all day.
