Retreat Activities

Relax into the cleansing process with detox juices or meals, daily yoga and meditation, bodywork and plenty of downtime.

Twice-daily yoga is taught by Brighton-based Chetana Thornton, who has 15 years teaching experience and whose classes combine vinyasa flow with core strengthening and inner balance to help you find proper alignment. Combining hatha yoga with yoga therapy, they focus on awakening the heart, restoring health, bringing true relaxation and returning to oneself.Chetana will help you to journey through all aspects of yoga, drawing on the healing power of mantras, kirtan, kriyas, mudras and pranayama to awaken energy through the entire body and mind. Mindfulness and meditation are a part of every yoga class.

On this detox retreat you have the choice of a full juice fast detox or a gentler healthy eating detox. On the juice fast you will be given detoxifying herbs, organic fruit and vegetable juices, barley grass and vegetable broth, full of all the vitamins and minerals you need to nurture your body, as well as psyllium husks to provide cleansing bulk and help stave off physical hunger.Self-administered enemas are done daily to help the body to eliminate toxins during the fasting process. If you do not want to fast for the entire week, you can also detox gently with a vegan or vegetarian healthy eating plan, with Mediterranean-style plant-based meals that are both gluten-free and dairy-free.  A few days of fasting can also be integrated into this programme.

The daily healthy eating and nutrition classes will teach you how to put together meals that will be healthy, satisfying and fun to make. You will learn about macro-nutrient balance, times of the day for optimal digestion and assimilation, how stress affects digestion and why it’s important to relax while eating. You will learn about common allergens in foods too, and how you can avoid them, as well as effective ways of balancing blood sugar.

Chetana and her husband therapist Will Thornton offer a range of treatments during your week at an extra cost. Choose from a menu that includes Yoga Therapy, Thai Yoga Massage, Cranio Sacral Therapy, Psychic Readings for the spiritually adventurous and other holistic practices. Chetana’s sessions take place on one of the yoga shalas, which is very private and overlooks the sea, while Will’s treatments take place in one of the wooden bungalows reserved for sessions. If you want some spa action, there’s a hamam and spa a 25 minute drive away, and free lifts are available.

Yuva Eco Retreat is located directly on the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean Sea. You can swim off the pebbly beach or nearby rocks, and enjoy exceptionally good visibility and (usually) very calm and tranquil waters. There is also a small salt water swimming pool on the property just below the upper yoga shala.

Here you can enjoy nature at its very best, with big sea views in one direction and wonderful mountain vistas in the other.  Land tortoises are often found on the property, as well as many different species of birds.   Sea turtles can be observed in the water on any boat trip, and sometimes simply when you are out for a swim. The retreat is located directly on the Lycian Way which is a 500 kilometre marked hiking trail connecting Fethiye to Antalya, and you can take guided walks or strike out alone.  The views on this trail are spectacular and often lead to small coves or beaches for swimming and sunbathing.  There are easy trails and more difficult ones, you can choose whatever suits your level of fitness.

You’ll have time out to explore the local area, for which transport can easily be arranged. The 2400 year old Lycian Rock Tombs located in the cliffs at the back of the nearby market town of Fethiye are worth seeing. There are also a number of stone sarcophagii carved in typical Lycian style scattered around the town, with one of the most preserved ones lying in the yard of the town governor’s office on the main street and the other on the middle of the road heading uphill towards the cave tombs and Kayakoy.   There are two Lycian sarcophagi within walking distance from Yuva.

Personal spaces

Bedrooms: There are eight Anatolian stone bedrooms and four wooden bungalows at Yuva. They are simple yet comfortable with double or twin beds and all rooms are ensuite with stunning views of the beautiful Mediterranean coastline and most with large balconies.

Personal spaces

Other spaces to be: Most of the rooms have their own balconies where you can rest and soak up some Mediterranean sunshine, and Yuva has several comfortable outdoor seating areas where you can find a spot to relax, read and unwind.  Various walking trails lead in every direction with varying degrees of difficulty which makes it easy to get away at any time. There is also one indoor space with a small shop and library overlooking the sea, but most relaxing takes place outside here.     .

Insider Tips

Pack light as storage is limited and you won’t need much.  Yoga mats, blocks and straps are all provided so no need to bring any with you.  Make sure you bring a good pair of walking shoes with you as some of the paths in and around the property can be rocky.  There’s a hamam and spa a 25-minute drive away, and free lifts there available.

When to Go

The retreats run in the Spring and Autumn, the best times to visit the southern Mediterranean when it’s less busy and the weather is warm but not as hot as summer and the sea is perfect for long swims. The grapes, oranges, apples and pomegranates at Yuva are in season and ripe for picking in October.

Shared places

The gardens: Yuva is in a beautiful rural setting full of organic orange, apple and pomegranate trees and local healing herbs like sage, oregano, mint, lemon balm, thyme and rosemary.  It’s easy to relax and unwind here – scattered over the property are two hammocks and two large wooden outdoor platforms where you can recline on lovely Turkish kilims and cushions overlooking the sea.

Shared places

Yoga shala: Yuva has two beautiful wooden yoga shalas, both overlooking the sea.  They are very large and spacious and are stocked with mats, blocks, straps and cushions.

There are two main open-to-the-elements eating and drinking areas at Yuva and both of them overlook the Mediterranean.  One has low tables for sitting around Japanese style, and the other has normal tables and chairs.  Meals are self-service, and juices and dishes are prepared with love and care.   The juice fasting menu features a large variety of fruit and vegetable juices, along with vegetable broth in the evenings. If you are on the healthy eating plan, you can expect Mediterranean-style gluten free and dairy free meals.

Breakfasts can be savoury or sweet depending on what people fancy, from sweet breakfasts such as soaked chia pudding with local seasonal fruits (mulberries, apricots and peaches in June and grapes and the pomegranates in the autumn), or savory vegetarian fare such as a typical Turkish breakfast with olives, tomatoes, cucumbers, feta cheese and olives.

Lunch is the bigger meal of the day, and lunches and dinners can include various Mediterranean meze-style dishes with beans, seasonal veggies, olives and salads that feature wonderfully ripe tomatoes, cucumbers, rocket, olives and parsley with very high-quality olive oil and pomegranate molasses. Herbal teas are made from a wide variety of healing herbs that grow in and around the property. There’s obviously a strict no alcohol and no caffeine property. Water is offered freely and is clean and filtered.
