What’s Lowly?

There are only two meals a day – a healthy organic sustaining brunch after morning yoga and 3 course vegan/vegetarian dinner, so you might not eat for a good eight hours. This ‘mini-fast’ is good news for your body, but some people might panic at the thought of no lunch. Fruit, nuts and seeds are however available in your room.

Transformative Healing Yoga Retreat

10 September – 10 November 2017: Book now for a 5-7 night autumn energy healing yoga retreat. Encouraging energy flow, it includes yoga, meditation, pranayama, sound healing and an organic vegan or vegetarian menu.

Retreat Activities

There’s a daily programme of healing yoga, meditation, paranyama and sound healing, with  time out for quiet reflection and optional extras, all aimed at providing clarity for your mind and inspiring you to experience your body’s innate intelligence. The programme is the same each day, except for two special Gut Healing Detox Retreat weeks in June and September.

Rosa is an exceptional teacher for absolute beginners and advanced students alike. A trained Kriya Yoga practitioner, she holds a one and half hour yoga session every morning before breakfast, the same peaceful healing flow every day. She calls her style Yoga Therapy, a  heart opening healing yoga style which rests in the classical Indian tradition. In fact, it is a very thorough and mostly gentle flow taking in asanas for every part of the body from the eyes to the toes and is suitable for everybody. Private, bespoke sessions are also available.

An hour-long guided meditation session with Rosa is held in the early evening. This takes the form of meditation through different breathing techniques (pranayama) and visualisation. Both experienced practitioners and beginners will find it very calming, and a chance to go deeper in a spiritual practice and re-discover your inner balance.

Rosa believes this to be very healing and to this end she uses a ‘singing’ crystal bowl and a small gong to create sensational sound waves in both the yoga and meditation sessions.

A range of different massages including Swedish and Thai are on offer from visiting therapists, and these need to be pre-booked. Other treatments include cures through bio-resonance (electro-magnetic waves), reiki and colon-cleansing.

Guests who are here for a week will welcome one specified Silent Day, which also includes silent computers and mobile phones.

The year-round programme is very healing for anyone recovering from illness or who is suffering from emotional stress and wants to make positive changes in their life, but for deeper healing still, Rosa offers date-specific holistic yoga and gut healing weeks in June and September with highly regarded German nutritionist Cornelia Povel.

Body Balance and Pilates sessions are available on request with local practitioner Alex Pudilk, who whips everyone who is anyone in Ibiza into shape. She charges €60 for 60 min 1-2-1 sessions. You can also book personal training sessions, which can include anything from aqua-gym to working with weights and boxing.

If you have a hire car you can access the plentiful beautiful forest and coastal walks nearby. Enjoy a pine forest foray, or a bracing walk along the cliffs above the sea. Horse-riding can be booked nearby, while the truly adventurous might like to try Free Diving Therapy in the sea (10 minutes’ drive away) which is diving without any equipment.

The background soundtrack during the day here is birdsong and farmyard noises from Rosa’s pigs, ducks and chickens. It’s all very soothing. Rosa’s rescued animals include four friendly dogs, two pet pigs, two white horses, chickens, ducks and turtles, all of which help make up her idyll. Their presence will be a bonus for many, for animal energy can be extremely calming and healing and guests are welcome to pet and engage with them all. The pigs squeal with pleasure when they are stroked, the chickens answer to their names and the four adorable rescue dogs are always keen to play or be walked. Clearly those who are allergic to animals or fearful of them need to be aware they are here.

Insider Tips

If you want to explore the island, go for long walks, or swim in the sea, you will need a rental car. The retreat is only ten minutes’ drive from the sea, but it would be difficult to get there on foot and lifts can’t be arranged. Visit the cave temple of the goddess of Tanit at Cova Des Cuieram, who to this day is still worshiped there, nd take time to experience Ibiza’s magnificent sunsets. If you crave builders’ tea, bring your own tea-bags. Herbal teabags are provided.

When to Go

Come in May if you love spring, when everything is blossoming and lush. Come in September/October to enjoy the more tranquil relaxed healing magnetic power of the island . Weather-wise, May, June and September are ideal, and are also less busy than during the hotter months of July and August when the clubbers come out in force – not that you will be anywhere near them at Rosa’s ‘island within an island’.


Good diet is integral to the Yoga Rosa philosophy. You eat at a large wooden communal table and chairs outside in a covered area overlooking one of the pools and with distant views, or Rosa might invite you inside her large and welcoming kitchen for a cup of tea and a chat. The cutlery, crockery and glasses are designer quality.

The food is all organic, locally sourced and can be prepared to accommodate specific diets. Vegan and vegetarian meals use seasonal vegetables and herbs growing in the retreat’s own kitchen garden.

The brunch, prepared by Rosa’s daughter Alena, is an absolute feast – divine porridge, either oats or brown rice, cooked slowly in coconut milk and adorned with goji berries and chia seeds is a highlight; eggs in any form from Rosa’s hens, avocado toast, different home baked goodies each day and nutritious green smoothies, herbal tea and coffee.

Suppers are cooked to the highest standard by delightful Austrian chef Philipp Gandler, who has trained under some of the finest chefs in the German-speaking world. He lovingly creates delicious, nutritious and exquisitely presented taste sensations in three courses – often soup followed by main course and pudding. As in all the best restaurants, each course is small and perfectly balanced. You come away perfectly satisfied but never over-full.

A variety of fruit, nuts and seeds, herbal teas and coffee are available in every bedroom if you get peckish in between brunch and dinner. And you can always ask for a green smoothie or homemade lemonade.

Rosa’s approach is totally holistic in every respect, so sustainability is important here. All of the water used for cooking and drinking is obtained through precipitation and put through a reverse osmosis filter. All the food is organic, some of it from the kitchen garden which uses nothing chemical at all; the eggs are fresh from Rosa’s hens – so free-range that they all have names and can be stroked. Much of the wooden furniture is made from recycled driftwood from the beach and there is not a hint of any plastic or manufactured either inside or out.
