Yoga & surf retreat in Sri Lanka
Warriors, Waves & Wisdom is a seven night retreat led by Yeotown founder and yoga teacher Mercedes Ngoh at Talaramba Beach in Sri Lanka. It’s a mix of yoga and surfing, yummy food, inspiring cultural excursions and spa treatments open to beginner surfers and yogis as well as experienced practitioners.
The retreat is based on the southernmost tip of Sri Lanka at Talaramba Reef, two beachfront villas and swimming pools set amid two and half acres of tropical gardens of coconut palms, cashews, mango and frangipani. Villa Sulanga (Wind) and Villa Vatura (Water) are luxurious yet informal beach houses where you can kick off your shoes and truly relax. Each house features large air-conditioned en-suite double bedrooms, wide balconies and verandas with ocean views. There’s an abundance of seafood and tropical fruits which will be used in a fresh, locally-sourced menu, which can be adapted for anyone with specific dietary requirements.
Yoga and surfing were made for each other. With a board instead of a mat and the ocean as your studio, when you surf you move through what is essentially a ‘vinyasa on water’. You develop a sequence of cobra, plank into warrior pose to catch the wave, followed by the meditative bliss of sitting ‘out back’ waiting for the next wave to come and take you into what could be called surfer’s Samadhi (ecstasy) – there’s no feeling quite like it. Talaramba Reef is located next to some of the best breaks on the South West Coast of Sri Lanka and there will be free time daily to swim, surf, snorkel and sunbathe.
There’ll also be sessions on breath work, guided meditation and visioning sessions which focus on what goals, desires, experiences etc a person wishes to envision for themselves and their life going forward.
The reteat costs from £1,450 per person sharing a room or £1,795 per person staying alone. The price includes breakfast and lunches, daily dynamic morning yoga sessions and afternoon restorative yoga on non-excursion days, a surf lesson and an excursion to Galle. See dates here.
