Meet contributor Audrey Gillan
Audrey Gillan is an award-winning journalist who has travelled the world in search of stories for more than 20 years. She was embedded in a small tank during the war in Iraq, living cheek by dirty jowl with 100 soldiers in the middle of the desert. Both terrifying and bizarrely fun, the experience taught her life must be lived in the now and should never be taken for granted.
Audrey is also a screenwriter and is currently working on her first feature film. She writes radio plays and makes radio documentaries. Her update of the Wallpaper* City Guide to Glasgow took her back to the place of her birth and she writes travel pieces on destinations with a story to tell rather than a place to sell.
Audrey has just begun her journey exploring her own greater wellbeing and mindfulness. She seeks places where flip flops are the only shoes required and hammocks are the chairs of choice. She eschews marble bathrooms and gold taps and is happy showering with a bucket. Though she sometimes wonders if this is just ‘daft’. London-based, in vibrant and inspiring Spitalfields, Audrey loves getting out of town on foot or on her bike and when the hedgerows are full of bounty, picking and cooking the best that nature has to offer.
