LIFE CHANGING RETREAT OF THE MONTH: Personal strategy at a gorgeous French chateau

Journalling was key to this retreat

Late last year I went on a 4 night Personal Strategy Retreat at an elegant 17th century chateau in Burgundy led by Julie Hosler, an intelligent and well read American now living in Paris who trained with the International Coaching Academy.

Her ‘Personal Strategy’ looks at how you get from where you are in life to where you want to be, and I thoroughly enjoyed the creative coaching tool kit she used to get us to view our life as a story, and ourselves as the author of it.

Hosler proved to be a clever, personable guide as I and my fellow guests worked out how we wanted the next chapter of our story to go. The surroundings were simply gorgeous, and it also helped that our meals were lavish affairs devised by talented chef Ollie Timberlake and accompanied by wine.

You can read a full account of my time in The Daily Telegraph. Meanwhile, if you’re at a crossroads in life, I’d urge you to book onto Julie’s next 4 night Personal Strategy Retreats, which will run April 5-9 and October 4-8 in 2017 and cost from US$2,700 pp per person. Find out more at

A ritualised burning of our ‘Morning Pages’ each day was part of the ritual on this personal strategy retreat in France
