Here you’ll find our reviews of yoga holidays and yoga retreats all over the world. We have reviews of dedicated yoga holidays for group retreats on set dates; reviews of yoga retreat centres that are hired by different teachers; reviews of spas and retreats that offer drop-in yoga classes; reviews of UK yoga breaks and reviews of yoga teachers who organise and run their own retreats and holidays.
Yoga is a 5,000 year old system of health that’s tailor-made for today’s frantic world and it comes in many shapes and forms.
Far more than just a feel-good exercise, yoga affects every part of your being, and a well-chosen yoga holiday can help you tone up and energise the body, release pent up stress and anxiety and reconnect with yourself in a short space of time. Be warned: you may return from one of these retreats totally addicted to the yoga mat.
Here’s our thoughts on What Makes a Great Yoga Holiday. To help you find the right one for you, we have reviewed yoga holidays of all types right across the world. Whether you’re a total novice or an experienced yogini, want to do your downward dogs at a simple haven on Ibiza or a lavish spa in India, there will hopefully be a yoga retreat to suit.
Dedicated yoga holidays are group yoga retreats run by individual yoga teachers or healthy holiday companies on set dates and often feature star yoga teachers – those in Europe tend to run between March and October. You can also browse our reviews of yoga retreat centres to see which ones are worth visiting – these are hired by different yoga teachers each week, so be sure to ask the retreat lots of questions so you find a teacher who is right for you.
For something more low key, many spa retreats now have in-house yoga classes, so you can simply drop in for the odd yoga class during your stay – to find one to suit you, read our reviews of places with yoga classes. There are short yoga breaks in the UK to enjoy, or you can head off for a winter sun yoga retreat – little beats yoga on a beach or a sun-kissed terrace. To search all the yoga holidays by destination, go to the home page and use our drop down menus.
You might be drawn to fast flowing vinyasa or ashtanga yoga, or prefer the meditative slowness of yin yoga. Iyengar yoga is precise and focused, while if you’re looking for something with a more spiritual edge, you could try tantra, kundalini or anusara yoga. Some yoga teachers keep their yoga retreats focused and ‘pure’ (many combine yoga with detoxing); others take a relaxed approach and include chill-out time by the pool, a bit of sightseeing or the odd glass of wine. Whichever you choose, rest assured you’ll be stretched every which way – not just bodily but in mind and spirit too. Namaste!
