Diving into the pool at Amanwella in Sri Lanka
Set in 37 acres of beach a short ride from the fishing town of Tangalle, the minimalist hotel of Amanwella has one of the best swimming pools in Sri Lanka.
On a recent visit to the island we enjoyed all 47 metres of it, swimming endless lengths (me) or paddling across it and making up water-based adventures using one of the body boards the staff provide (my husband and daughter).
The suitably tropical view looks out to a lovely, lengthy stretch of vanilla sand with crashing waves and graceful coconut trees, and its clean minimalist lines are a fitting match for the hotel’s 30 light-flooded suites, which are inspired by the work of famed Sri lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa.
If you can’t stay here, book in for lunch and slip into the pool after.
A stay at Amanwella costs from US$625 per room per night including breakfast, afternoon tea and minibar. Find them at amanwella.com.
